The 2013 Copa Libertadores champions Atletico Mineiro are once again through to the group stages of the tournament, after knocking Uruguayan side Defensor Sporting out of the competitions in the previous round. They’ve also had an excellent start to the league season (regional championship Minas Gerais), where they are still undefeated after eight rounds (6 wins).
Top scorer so far is the evergreen Ricardo Oliveria, who already has five goals to his name. He is expected to lead the line again tonight alongside Colombian striker Yimmi Chara.
The home side will be without suspended influential midfielder Ze Welison, but that could lead to Minerio manager Levir Culpi opting for a more attacking formation, something that could suit the hosts.
Over 25,000 tickets have already been sold, so the home side will be well supported tonight.
Cerro Porteno have had a somewhat sloppy start to their domestic campaign and sit fourth in the table with five wins in nine matches. Their win over Sportivo Luqueno on the weekend was their first in four league outings and there’s a question mark regarding form for the visitors.
They are traveling without experienced defender Marcos Caceres, who is suspended, but should otherwise have a fully fit squad.
We believe the home crowd will help Mineiro to three points here.
