Grimsby vs Gateshead
Grimsby are unbeaten in seven games heading into tonight’s clash with Gateshead. However they have only been able to win three out of those seven and have struggled to close games even though they have often grabbed the lead early on. Goal scoring has definitely not been the problem as they have score most goals out of everyone in the leauge (28) and they have plenty of fire power going forward with new signings Padraig Amond (7 goals) and Omar Bogle (6 goals) finding the net on a regular basis already this season. Surprisingly both had to settle for places on the bench on the weekend and both could be in for a start tonight. Grimsby boss Paul Hurst has no new injury concerns and only long term absentees Josh Sunter and Scott Brown are certain to be out.
Gateshead have started the season really well and sit fourth in the table after 14 rounds. They have been in good goal scoring form lately, even though they haven’t always turned that into points on the board. They lost 2-3 at home to Dover on the weekend, in a game where leading scorer Ryan Bowman, new from Torquay, failed to score for the fourth game in a row. He is getting into good positions though and don’t expect it to take too long before he’s on the score sheet again, maybe already tonight. Away from home Gateshead have won five out of seven games, scoring 10 goals in the process, quite impressive.
If we look at the last five head-to-heads between the two, both teams have scored on four occasions, often in high scoring affairs. We believe there’s a good chance for that to happen tonight again.
