SJK vs VPS
Last season’s league winners SJK will host their first home match in the League Cup when they welcome VPS tonight. The home side started their cup campaign with a 0-0 draw away to KuPS, a game in which both teams fielded several youngsters and where SJK dominated for 60 minutes without being able to score. Since then they have also had a friendly with Norwegian first division side Aalesund, which resulted in a 1-2 loss but with a good performance. JK have made several great signings during the winter break, bringing in the likes of Alexei Ermolenko Jr, Roope Riski, Jarkko Hurme, Tarmo Kink and Youness Rahimi. We believe they have an excellent opportunity to get their season going tonight.
VPS barely managed to stay in Veikkausliiga last season but have started their league cup campaign quite well. They have lost last season’s top scorer Juho Mäkelä to HIFK and might struggle for goals this season. A single goal in the two games they’ve played in the Cup so far might be evidence of that. Against a strenghtened home side we don’t give the visitors too much hope.
