Bradford vs Aldershot
After a goalless draw at The Recreation Ground in Aldershot a replay awaits for Bradford City at Valley Parade tonight. The home team have fond memories of the Cup from last season in which they went all the way to the quarter-finals, before eventually tasting defeat in a replay to Championship side Reading. On the way to the quarters they knocked both Chelsea and Sunderland out of the competition and took the FA Cup by storm. A similar run this season is unlikely but with a home game against Chesham United waiting for the winner tonight, chances are good to make the 3rd round. Bradford have been in good form in the league and boss Phil Parkinson says his current crop of players is the best squad he has had during his time as Bantams’ manager. Striker Billy Clarke is looking sharper and sharper for every match after his injury layoff and he scored against Crewe in a 2-0 win on the weekend. Don’t be surprised if he shows up in the scoresheet again tonight.
Aldershot’s league form has not been the best this season and they sit 14th in the National League table with 28 goals in 21 rounds. After two straight losses in the league, Aldershot boss Barry Smith has promised sweeping changes to his squad for tonight’s game. He was especially fuming after the team’s defeat at lowly Kidderminster on the weekend and said about his players: “If they’ve got any thoughts about the game on Wednesday, they’ve probably just put themselves out of the team.*
We believe Bradford will put on a better performance tonight and claim the win and a spot in the 3rd round. After all, in addition to having the better form, Bradford ply their trade in League One, two divisions above the visitors.
