Congo vs Ethiopia

Congo has risen quickly in the FIFA World Rankings over the last couple of years. In 2011 they ranked as low as 133 and now they are up to 52, close to the highest they have ever ranked. The leap in the rankings coincides with the hiring of Frenchman Claude Le Roy, also known as the “The white Witchdoctor” for his ability to turn African national teams into forces to be reckon with. He has managed Cameroon (twice), Senegal, DR Congo (twice) and Ghana and have had more or less success with all of them. Now he aims to take Congo to their first ever World Cup. They still have a long way to go but look set to get past the 2nd qualifying round where the face Ethopia in a two-legged tie. Congo won the first leg 4-3 in Addis Abeba and are huge favorites to through. Les Diables Rouges, or Red Devils, were actually up 4-1 after 81 minutes, and in control most of the game, but conceded two late goals to make it at least a little nervy.

Ethiopia are as low as 114th in the World Rankings and are yet to stamp their mark in world football. Their form have not been great lately and they even lost away to São Tomé e Príncipe in the first qualifying round, before eventually going through 3-1 on aggregate. Not exactly the kind of displays that put fear in your opponents. With a squad consisting mostly of players from the Ethiopian league we don’t give them much chance of proceeding here.
