Hitchin – Haringey Borough
Hitchin are in great form at the moment and have five wins and a draw in their last six games in all competitions. On Saturday they drew away to Haringey Borough in the second qualifying round for the FA Trophy and will have a replay tonight at home at Top Field. The game on Saturday was a hard fought battle under terrible conditions on a poor and rain-lashed pitch. Hitchin had the upper hand most of the first half without being able to find the back of the net. The second half started as the first ended, with Hitchin controlling the pace of the game, but it was still Haringey who struck first on 57 minutes. They then had a penalty saved by Hitchin keeper Charlie Horlock before The Canaries pressure eventually paid off as Kane Smith’s cross was deflected by Haringey defender Scott into his own net. Despite chances both ways there were no more goals and the two had to settle for a draw.
Hitchin’s dominant possession should have seen them run out rather comfortable winners but the pitch condition definitely wasn’t to their advantage and it will likely be a different story at Top Field tonight. After all, Haringey Borough have only managed 10 points in 18 league outings and sit bottom of Isthmian League North. The hosts play in the division above where they are in a decent 10th position, aiming for a playoff spot.
We believe Hitchin’s passing game will be better suited tonight and with a great home recordd, they are very likely to go through to the next round.
