Guinea – Namibia
Guinea might not be the best known team in Africa, but the fact that they are ranked as high as 53 in the FIFA World Rankings show that they are force to be reckon with. Due to the outbreak of Ebola in the country, they will play tonight’s game in Casablanca, Morocco. This has been the case for a while now, but even so they have done very well and defeated Senegal 3-1 at “home” in Mali in a African Cup of Nations qualifier in October. Tonight they face 118th ranked Namibia in the 2nd leg of a two-legged knock-out round for the World Cup in Russia in 2018. Guinea won the first leg 1-0 in Windhoek despite being down to 10 men for almost the whole second half. The West Africans have some really good players in the squad like Anderlecht midfielder Idrissa Sylla and Naby Keïta of FC Salzburg with a bunch of others also playing club football in Europe. Guinea should be the clear favorites here.
Namibia have a squad with less known players where none of the starters in the defeat in the first leg play club football outside Africa. Most players belong to teams in South Africa with a few playing in the Namibian league. Namibia have struggled when it comes to qualifying games even though they did knock 168th place Gambia out in the last round. When it comes to higher ranking teams they have struggled considerably. After losing 0-1 in the first leg they now face a really uphill battle and we don’t give them much chance of proceeding.
