Sweden vs Denmark
Sweden take on Denmark in Stockholm tonight in the first game in a two legged tie for a place the Euro next year. Sweden looked to have almost booked a place in the competition next year but slipped up in the end as they lost to both Austria and Russia and eventually finished third in the group. It looks like coach Erik Hamrén will stick with Andreas Granqvist and Mikael Antonsson as the central defensive pairing, despite the two coming in for some criticism. A wise decision perhaps as what they are lacking in speed they make up for in strength. Facing a Danish team with strength rather than speed up front, Hamrén might have dealt his cards right.
Denmark have had a disappointing qualifying campaign and ended up third in their group behind Portugal and Albania. Goal scoring have been a problem throughout the campaign and they only hit 8 goals in 8 qualifying games. With Niklas Bendtner the man likely to lead the line, expectations are not great that will change tonight. What the Danes do have is a strong defense with Daniel Agger and Simon Kjaer as the rocks in a strong back four. A low scoring affair is to be expected.
