Grimsby vs Lincoln
Grimsby are on a five match winning streak in the league which has taken them back into the promotion play-off places. They sit 5th in the table and have been very sound defensively, conceding only twice in their last five league games, including three straight clean sheets. They have a huge advantage going into today’s derby clash with Lincoln after their game on Boxing Day against Guiseley was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. That means they have 7 days to prepare instead of 48 hours. The Mariners only have Jon-Paul Pittman missing in an otherwise fully fit squad meaning experienced midfielder Andy Monkhouse is expected to be fit.
Lincoln have seen their previous good form vanish and are now without a win in 6 games in all competitions (5 in the league). On Boxing Day they lost 0-1 at home to lowly Halifax and Lincoln boss Chris Moyses feels his team is somewhat now being figured out. “I feel we’re getting too much of a one-trick pony. We are getting the ball in too early and we need to get more movement and create more space to get the ball into the box properly” he told the Lincolnshire Echo. The fact that they struggled creating chances against a team like Halifax does not bode well for the visitors going into today’s derby clash.
Grimsby are well rested after getting a pass on Boxing Day, a luxury the visitors didn’t get, and should be the clear favorites here.
