Liverpool vs Bordeaux
Liverpool come into tonight’s Europa League clash with Bordeaux on the back of a 4-1 trashing of Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. A truly deserved win in which Liverpool clearly were the better team and where new signing Firmino finally showed glimpses of why Pool splashed the cash to sign him in the summer. Liverpool can progress to the knockout stages with a win tonight and Jürgen Klopp is likely to field a strong team even though he have to do without the services of Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtl. Christian Benteke, who started on the bench against Man City, will likely get the nod alongside Firmino and Jordon Ibe in attack. Daniel Sturridge is fit again and will take a place on the bench.
Bordeaux are third in Group B and need a win tonight not to risk being knocked out of the competition. They are however hit by injuries and suspensions and defenders Nicolas Pallois and Pablo as well as midfielder Gregory Sertic och striker Thomas Touré are all missing. Bordeaux have a terrible record on English soil where they have never won nor scored a single goal. Against an high spirited Liverpool side at Anfield, they are likely to find it hard once again.
Liverpool has been the group’s corner machine, averaging 9.5 corners per game only letting up an average of 2.25. Pool is also the team in Premier League getting the most amount of corners at home with an average of 8.7. Bordeaux is the corner shy team in the group, averaging 3.5 corners going forward and in the reverse fixture in Bordeaux it was 8-4 in corners for Liverpool.
We believe the home side will continue their offensive style of play tonight and with a few players missing for the visitors, corners could start to come in bunches for Liverpool.
