Maritimo vs Academica
Maritimo recorded their first win of the season when they defeated Vitoria Setubal 5-2 on Sunday. It is not as bad as it sounds though as only four rounds have been played and the opponents have been strong. They have only lost once and managed a 1-1 draw at home to giants Porto. Today they face Academica in the League Cup, a competition in which they reached the final last season. Maritimo boss Ivo Vieira can welcome midfielder Tiago Rodrigues back from his suspension and he will go straight back into the squad. Vieira has decided to give goalkeeper Romain Salin a rest so Brazilian Wellington will start between the sticks.
Academica have started the season with four straight losses, conceding in 10 goals in the process, and are now in a bit of trouble. They have already declared that the cup will not be a priority this season and it will be interesting to see what kind of starting eleven coach José Viterbo will field. He will definitely have to do without defender Aderian and striker Rabiola and the feeling is that he wouln’t be too sadden with an early cup exit.
We believe Maritimo are superior in both strength and motivation here.
