San Marino vs Slovenia
San Marino ended a 61-game losing streak when they picked up their first ever Euro qualifier point against Estonia in November last year. Since then things have been back to “normal”, even though they almost grabbed a point away to Lithuania last month. Against Switzerland on Friday they were heavily outplayed and lost 0-7, a result almost flattering for the Sammarinese. Tonight they face Slovenia who they lost 0-6 in the reverse fixture in March and the home team are again the heavy underdogs.
Slovenia are third in group E and are all but through to the playoffs to next year’s Euro in France. They have no chance of catching England or Switzerland to clinch an automatic spot and only a loss tonight and along with a big win for Estonia against Switzerland could make them miss the playoffs. Neither result is very likely and instead Slovenia can relax and work on their finishing which has been lacking in the last two qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania. Bayer Leverkusen’s Kevin Kampl returns to boost the squad after serving a suspension and with him back in the team the Slovenians are definitely a much stronger team.
We believe the visitors have at least three goals in them and considering San Marino have only scored a single goal in 9 qualifiers, it’s likely we will at least get our money back with good chances for more.
