Standard Liege vs Sint-Truiden

Standard Liege started the season poorly and are still in the bottom half of the table, if only just, after 17 rounds. They have however started to turn their season around after four wins and a draw from their last six league games. Tonight they take on Sint-Truiden in the round of 16 of the Belgium Cup, a special game for Standard boss Yannick Ferrera, who signed from the visitors in September when he replaced Slavoljub Muslin. Ferrera has been a big part in the turnaround in fortunes and says Standard are fully focused on the Cup as it is “the shortest way to Europe”. We don’t think there will be too much tinkering with the starting eleven as Ferrara is not likely to want to lose against his former employers.

Sint-Truiden are struggling at the moment on the back of a decent start to the season. Three defeats in their last five league games have seen them drop to 8th in the table and focus will now on getting back on track in the league. Truiden coach Chris O’Loughlin said that this game will be a good opportunity for players with little playing time to get a run and also for some of his stars to get a rest. O’Loughlin has already made it clear that first choice goalkeeper William Dutoit, defender Ruben Fernandes and midfielder Christian Cuevas won’t start and there might be even more changes. Standard should have a very good chance of progressing here.
