Stourbridge head into tonight’s game with Marine on the back of an impressive 5-1 home win against Hyde on Saturday. Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett had demanded a response from his players after the defeat at high-flying Barwell on Tuesday, where he felt his side hadn’t played to instruction and gave away goals too easy. He must have been delighted in the way his team conducted themselves on the weekend and is sure to keep them on their toes to ensure they keep the same standards tonight. The home side are in good form and have 4 wins in their last 5 games in all competitions. At home they have been scoring goals for fun, averaging 3 goals per game in their last 5 at the War Memorial Ground. The Glassboys aim for a promotion playoff spot this season and sitting 8th in the table they definitely need to win their home games to make that happen. With a few games in hand, they have an excellent opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them starting tonight.
Team news: Goalkeeper Lewis Solly is a long term absentee but Matt Gould has joined on loan from Livingston and is an excellent replacement.
Marine are in exactly the same position in the table as they finished last season (21st) after picking up just a single point in their last 7 league games, including four straight defeats. Last week’s 0-1 defeat at home to Darlington 1883 was thoroughly deserved and could have been bigger and it’s hard to see them picking points off anyone at the moment. The reverse fixture ended in a 0-2 defeat and anything but 0 points tonight would come as a surprise. We believe Sean Hessey’s men will leave Stourbridge empty handed once again.
