Lierse vs Coxyde
The second half of the season kicks off tonight as Lierse host Coxyde in the 17th round of the Belgian second division. Lierse, who were relegated from the Pro League last season, were tipped for an immediate return to the top flight, but a difficult start to the season saw them only pick up one point from the first four rounds. Things have gotten better since, but they are still only in 10th place with half the season gone and need to keep on putting points on the board. They are undefeated in seven straight league games, so form wise they are well up there with the best in the league. Slovenian striker Etien Velinkolja has been in excellent goal scoring form this season, hitting 11 goals in 13 league games. He will lead the line again tonight as he chases Tubize’s Diallo at the top of the goal scoring charts.
Coxyde were promoted from the third division last season and have found life in the second tier difficult so far. They are yet to record a win this season and sit second bottom in the table after six draws and nine losses from the first 15 rounds. Away from home they have only managed two points all season, and after three heavy defeats in a row, they are not exactly booming with confidence.
The reverse fixture, which was also the first game of the season, ended in a 1-1 draw. Lierse were however the clearly better team (18-6 in shots, 69% possession) and are likely to get their revenge tonight.
