Stourbridge vs Matlock Town
Stourbridge are on a six match winning streak in the league which have taken them up to 6th in the table, just outside the promotion play-off spots but with games in hand. Due to bad weather several games have been postponed in the last few weeks resulting in Stourbridge having played five of their last six league games at home, and War Memorial Ground will be the venue once again tonight when Matlock come for a visit. The Glassboys’ match against Frickley on the weekend was also postponed, giving the players plenty of rest ahead of tonight’s clash. Assistant manager Jon Ford, who will take charge tonight in the absence of Gary Hackett, said to Stourbridge News that confidence is very high at the moment and that the current squad is the strongest he’s seen in his 13 years at the club. We believe that is more than enough for another three points tonight.
Team news: Stourbridge have further strengthened their squad by bringing in midfielder Robert Paratore from Telford. He goes straight into the squad for tonight’s game. Junior Smikle also returns to the squad after his absence.
Matlock are not doing well at the moment and have only one win in their last six league outings. They now sit 14th in the table and have had a season with very mixed results. They were beaten comfortably by 20th placed Stamford in their last league game and the visitor’s boss Mark Hume believes it’s mostly down to player’s attitudes. “The players must think they’re better than they are, it’s got to be a mental thing,” said a frustrated Hume to Matlock Mercury. “They’re letting the club down, the fans down and me down as I’ve shown so much faith in them.” he continued.
Either way, we don’t really see them being good enough to earn anything from tonight’s game.
