Werder Bremen – VVV Venlo
It’s been a mixed bag of results for Werder Bremen in pre-season friendlies so far, but they are looking slight better for every game. They have also made some interesting signings lately, like Japanese World Cup star Yuya Osako who joins from Cologne as well as veteran striker Claudio Pizarro who joins the club for a fourth and final time on a one year contract to see out his career in the club who brought the Peruvian to Europe in the first place. They have also signed industrial midfielder Davy Klaasen from Everton, and all three are likely to get some playing time under their belts tonight.
VVV Venlo had a terrible end to their 2017/2018 season and just managed to escape the relegation playoffs. They haven’t really been tested during the pre-season, even though their win against Twente on Friday was a decent result. It should however be noted that Twente is not nearly the club it was a few years ago.
As the season is drawing closer Werder Bremen are likely to experiment less and really prepare for the Bundesliga premiere against Hannover (as well as the cup game against Wormatia Worms). We believe they are just a little bit too strong for their opponents here.
